The West Gonja District is one of the 26 districts in the Northern Region, with its administrative capital at Damango. About 30% of the district’s land represents forest reserves and Mole National Park. The district shares common boundaries with Sawla-Tuna-Kalba district on the west, Wa East and West Mamprusi on the north, North Gonja to the East and Central Gonja on the south. The district which was established by Legislative Intrument (L.I) 2069 is endowed with natural game resources and many tourist sites.
The population of the district according to 2010 population and housing census stands at 41,180 with 20,681 males and 20,499 females.
