Builsa North District is one of the Thirteen (13) Districts and Municipals in the Region. The District was established by Legislative Instrument (L.I) 2148 and is located in the north-eastern section of the Upper East Region. Sandema is the District administrative capital.
It is bordered to the north by the Kessena nankana west district, to the east by the Sssala East District, to the west By Kessena Nankana East District and to the south by Builsa South District.
Significantly, two tributaries of the Volta River namely the White Volta and the Red Volta run contiguous to the districts eastern and western boundaries respectively. There is a strong relationship between the geology and the relief of the district.
The population of the District according to 2010 population and housing census stands at 56,477 with 27,792 males and 28,685 females.
